Eye Cataract Treatment

Cataracts in both eyes had affected my quality of life. Certainly, cataracts were not a good match for a professional writer. Reading incoming email was difficult and proofreading was a real challenge. I did not drive at night because I saw halos around car head lights and street lights. "Are you ready for cataract surgery and a lens implant?" asked the eye doctor. My answer was an instant yes.

Depletion or loss of vision in the initial stages of cataract is rare. However, there are warning signs as cataract progresses, including blurred vision, sensitivity to bright light, difficulty seeing at night, trouble identifying colors, and headache brought on by eye strain.

Treatment:

1. Vitamin C plays an important role in cataract prevention. Supplement of vitamin C significantly decrease the risk of both cataracts and macular degeneration. Vitamin c supplements in amount over 300 mg could eventually eliminate the need for cataract surgery. Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) and niacin which occur in animal and plant tissues have also been effective in cataract development. Vitamin E supplements are also beneficial for prevention of cataracts in peoples. Daily dose of 400 IU is found beneficial for cataract prevention.

2. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR can assist in preventing and controlling cataract when mixed with honey in water and consumed with each meal.

3. Medicines called 'Rasayanas', These medicines include Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Samudrashosh (Argyreia speciosa), Naagbala (Grewia hirsuta), Amalaki, Haritaki, Rasna (Pluchea lanceolata), Aparaajita (Clitoria ternatea), Mandukparni (Centella asiatica), Punarnava, Mudgaparni (Phaseolus trilobus), Mashparni (Teramnus labialis) and Gokshur (Tribulus terrestris). These medicines prevent atherosclerosis and thus ensure a good supply of blood to all the parts of the body.

4. Yoga Candle gazing is a beneficial yoga exercise for eyestrain. Sit comfortably and gaze at a candle about 3ft/1m away, without blinking, for ten seconds. Palm for 30 seconds, then resume gazing with one eye only then the other, then together, turning the head Gradually increase the time (20 then 30 seconds) over several weeks.

5. CARROTS are a great source of Vitamin A, and are are -- as folklore suggests -- highly beneficial for the eyes. Eating raw carrots and/ or drinking a glass or two of raw carrot juice each day helps keep cataracts away.

6. An important factor in cataract prevention is drinking water. Drink lots of filtered water; avoid fluoridated and chlorinated water. Eliminate dairy products and saturated fats, which promote the formation of free radicals and can damage the lens. Use only cold-pressed oils. Medical journals report an association between cigarettes and cataracts, probably because smoking generates free radicals.

7. The only treatment for cataract is surgery to remove it. Cataract surgery is very successful in restoring vision. In fact, it is the most frequently performed surgery in the United States, with over 1.5 million cataract surgeries done each year. There are 2 types of surgery that can be used to remove lenses that have a cataract First is Extracapsular surgery consists of surgically removing the lens, but leaving the back half of the capsule (the outer covering of the lens) whole.
